How Strict Gun Laws Protect People From Being Injured Or Harmed?

How do strict gun laws protect the populace of people from being injured or harmed? More importantly how does the government protect you by passing strict gun regulations and allowing only themselves the rights to openly carry high caliber semi automatic weapons?

What happens instead is: you lose the ability to defend yourself from the entity that has granted the only "rights" to themselves. The United states government and its employees are responsible for the most gun violence here in the states. Also, police violence is the leading cause of death for young men here in the states.
